Mocha Memoirs Press’s official stance on Generative AI, pirate sites, and the LibGen/Meta theft:

Recently, The Atlantic published an article with a search tool that allowed authors to check if their works were in LibGen, an illegal pirate site AI companies copied to train their AI systems. This list contains over 7.5 million books, including many published by Mocha Memoirs Press. Our mission has been to amplify marginalized voices in science fiction, fantasy, and horror. There are plenty of gatekeepers and barriers for writers of color and queerness without adding AI-generated stories which blatantly steal from those hardworking artists.

Throughout our 15 years, Mocha Memoirs has published over 400 titles in speculative fiction. We encourage our fellow authors to follow the Authors Guild of America’s suggestions for protecting their work as well as how to get LibGen to remove their titles, the class action lawsuit and more. Our Official Position: Mocha Memoirs Press does not accept AI-generated, AI-assisted, or AI-drafted works, including art that’s AI-generated in any way. We will continue to publish stories and art created by humans. We denounce the use of AI to scrape and violate authors’ and artists’ copyrights.
